The Classical Chai Tea Recipe

Chai tea recipes are traditionally depending to the individual taste. Chai tea is a variation of spices together with tea and milk which makes a drink that is a nice and useful for health.. The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine wrote that chai tea derives from Ayurvedic medicine and able to be created with various recipes. Most of the recipes use spices that promotes health.

Most chai tea recipes use ginger, cinnamon, cloves and black, green or oolong tea. Other base chai tea ingredients are black peppercorns,cardamom, fennel as well. Most of theme are regarded as healthy ingredients in Ayurvedic medicine. Milk, which always becomes part of chai tea, enhancing the taste and making it a richer, and more satisfying drink, however, it is not essential for the health benefits. For those suffered from lactose intolerance are able to use soy milk or rice milk.

Chai Tea Recipe - for 2 cups


  - 2 cups water
  - 2 cloves
  - 3 green cardamoms
  - A small piece of brown cardamom
  - Pinch of fennel seeds
  - A small piece of cinnamon stick
  - 3/4 cup milk
  - 2 teaspoons of tea leaves or 1 tea bag

  • Crush all spices using pestle and mortar. Crushing the spices bring out the flavor very nicely.
  • Place water and all spices in a pot and bring to boil
  • Cover and lower the heat to allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes
  • Add tea leaves and bring it to a gentle boil, then allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes
  • Add milk and bring to a gentle boil
  • Remove from heat, add sugar or honey as desired.
