Folks have been using lemongrass tea as medicine for a long time. Lemongrass is derived from the countries in South East Asia and Africa. Botanically, lemongrass is called Cymbopogon,  and included to the grass family.  Nowadays, lemongrass tea is popular in western countries for its properties of medicine.

People in South Asia have used lemongrass for cooking since ancient time. Lemongrass contains anti-bacterial as well as anti-fungal in nature, which makes it become an effective remedy for various disorders. 

Lemongrass tea is containing relief from nausea, severe menstrual cramps and sometimes also acting as a diuretic. Health benefits of lemongrass tea are, detoxification of kidneys, liver, pancreas, bladder and the digestive tract. Lemongrass tea can maintain normal levels of cholesterol in the body, toxins, excess fats as well as improving digestion.

Lemongrass tea has become an ancient remedy to care chest congestion, colds as well as coughs. lemongrass tea also has benefits in prevention of acne and other skin problems.
How to Make Lemongrass Tea

  • Clumps of lemongrass
  • Water, 1 cup
  • Milk, if desired
  • Sugar or honey, as per taste
  • Strainer
  • Peel the outer layer of the leaves and discard them. The outer layers, will give your tea a bitter taste.
  • Boil the water and add the clumps of peeled leaves to it.
  • Let the water boil on a slow heat for around twenty minutes. This extracts all the essence of the leaves.
  • Add the sweetener and boil it for another 5 minutes. If you want, you can add some milk at this point.
  • Remove from the stove, strain it in a cup and drink it hot.
You can make iced lemongrass tea too but refraining it from adding milk.

Please get rid of drinking lemongrass tea excessively and make sure that it's a real herb and not some hoax. So if you have been taking lemongrass tea for 10 days, please skip 5 days. It isn't good idea to consume lemongrass tea during pregnancy, so avoid completely.
